There are certain places in a small town that quietly become part of your weekly routine. For me as a mom in Farmville, the Farmville Public Library is one of those places. It’s more than just a building filled with books…it’s a space where my kids learn, explore, create, and simply get to be kids. Weekly Story Time…A Highlight of Our Week
Story time at the library is pure magic. There’s something special about watching your child sit wide eyed as the librarian brings a book to life. The voices, the expressions, the laughter… It makes reading exciting and interactive. My kids don’t just listen…they participate. They sing songs, answer questions, and sometimes even act out parts of the story. As a mom, I love knowing they’re building listening skills, early literacy, and friendships, all while having fun. And honestly? It’s a sweet way to slow down in the middle of a busy week.
Weekly Scavenger Hunt
One of our favorite surprises each week is the library’s scavenger hunt.The kids get so excited searching the shelves and corners of the library for hidden clues. It turns it into an adventure. They’re practicing reading, problem-solving, and observation skills, but to them, it just feels like a game. It keeps them engaged the entire time we’re there, and it gives them a sense of accomplishment when they complete it and Ms. Kathy gives them a sticker at the end.
Legos & Toys
Some days, my kids want to build. Other days, they want to play with the puzzles or play kitchens.The Lego table and sensory toy bins are perfect for both. They can create towers, houses, and wild inventions with Legos. It also gives me a moment to breathe while still being right there with them.
Makers Space
The maker’s space might be my kids favorite spot. There’s something about having a designated space just for creating that makes it feel special. Paint, paper, glue, markers… it’s all there for them to express themselves. They’ve made everything from seasonal crafts to colorful masterpieces that now hang on our fridge at home. They love to make crafts and give them to Ms.Heather & Ms.Kathy.
A Play Area Just for Kids
The play area makes the library feel welcoming & exciting. There are cozy spots to sit and read, interactive toys, and space to move around. When children feel comfortable somewhere, they want to come back. My kids ask to go to the library every week.
More Than Books
The Farmville Public Library has become more than a place where we check out books. It’s where my kids are learning to love reading. It’s where they’re developing social skills & friendship. It’s where we run into other moms and wave at familiar faces. In a world full of screens and constant noise, it’s refreshing to have a space that encourages curiosity, creativity, and connection.
